Innovation Partnerships Program (IPart) National Science Foundation (NSF)
Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Pre-Proposal Development Service

Pennsylvania-based health technology firms can benefit from Eighteen Ventures expertise in preparing and submitting a winning National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I proposal for the December 2019 submission deadline.

Funding Programs

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program offers entrepreneurs an opportunity to acquire seed grants, a Phase I award and a Phase II award, for the development of innovative, marketable, problem-solving healthcare or medical solutions. Phase I funding is used for six months to demonstrate the feasibility of a proposed technology concept. Phase II funding is used for two years to produce a product prototype.

The Pennsylvania Innovation Partnership (IPart) offers financial assistance to Pennsylvania-based entrepreneurs pursuing SBIR grants.  Specifically, IPart provides a MicroVoucher which is used to hire an SBIR proposal preparation consultant from the IPart's Preferred Provider list. As a qualified IPart Preferred Provider, Eighteen Ventures is on that list.  MicroVouchers pay half of the proposal development consultant costs, up to a maximum of $3,000.  The entrepreneurs pay the remaining costs.

Service Description

An initiative designed to help you organize, prepare and submit a winning funding proposal for your health technology or medical device concept.

Eighteen Ventures will work closely with applicants to ensure that the proper approach, information and resources are utilized in order to prepare an effective, responsive proposal that meets both Pennsylvania Innovation Partnership (IPart) and NSF SBIR program requirements. Our efforts are also focused on helping applicants submit their completed proposals well before the Thursday, December 12th, 2019 deadline.

Service Process/Implementation

Eighteen Ventures will:

  1. Provide a free Pre-SBIR Proposal development audit, which is designed to help determine the strengths and weakness of applicants' proposal development process.
  2. Help applicants assemble the necessary information and resources to meet both the IPart and the NSF SBIR Phase I proposal development requirements for funding consideration.
  3. Guide applicants in preparing and submitting an effective, responsive NSF SBIR Phase I proposal before the Thursday, December 12th, 2019 submission deadline.

Key Program Feature

Eighteen Ventures will use its SBIR Physician Consulting Referral Network to identify and refer practicing physicians as project consultants.    The physicians can provide invaluable advice and assistance to the applicants' NSF SBIR Phase I and II projects.

Under NSF SBIR program rules, the physician consultants can be paid from the Phase I and II project budgets.
